Best Practices: Instead of sending out a link to your Zoom sessions, post the link inside of Canvas and ask the students to check Canvas for connection information. This alleviates the need for them to use a password, as they are already authenticated; and eliminate any confusion in session IDs.
Recommendations and General Guidelines to avoid “ZoomBombing”
General Guidelines
– Use a unique Zoom ID for each meeting; avoid using your Personal Meeting ID, especially when hosting public meeting or webinars.
– Do not post meeting links on social media.
– Do not share links to meetings you are invited to join without the host’s approval.
– Do not use your Personal Meeting ID when hosting public meetings or webinars.
Tips for Managing Participants as the Host
– Require a password for attendees to join. Do not make meeting rooms open to the public.
– Utilize waiting rooms. This will enable the control and management of guests.
– Change the screen-sharing option to “Host Only” if appropriate. This will disable webcam access, preventing participants from sharing inappropriate behavior.
– Lock the meeting after a desired amount of time has passed. This will prevent new participants from joining, even if they have the meeting ID and password.
– Require participants to join a meeting using the same email they were invited with.
– Turn off File Share capability if there is no need to share files during a meeting.
– Turn off Annotation if there is no need to annotate a screen share.
– Disable private chat to prevent participants from chatting with each other.
– Remove unwanted or disruptive participants if needed. From that Participants menu, you can mouse over a participant’s name, and several options will appear, including Remove.
– Mute participants. Hosts can mute/unmute individual participants or all of them at once. Hosts can block unwanted, distracting, or inappropriate noise from other participants. You can also enable Mute Upon Entry in your settings to keep the clamor at bay in large meeting.
